  9. The following describes the procedure for installing the protected-mode
  10. NDIS 3 (EL90X.386) driver or real-mode NDIS 2 (EL90X.DOS) driver under 
  11. Windows for Workgroups (WFW). 
  12.  
  13. NOTE: It is assumed that WFW has already been installed.
  14.  
  15. 1.  Start Windows.
  16.     
  17. 2.  Open the Network group and double-click Network Setup.
  18.  
  19. 3.  Click Networks... in the Network Setup window.
  20.  
  21. 4.  Choose install Microsoft Windows Network and.
  22.  
  23. 5.  Choose No Additional 
  24.     Network in the submenu. Click OK.
  25.  
  26. 6.  If you would like to share your files or printers with other 
  27.     people on the network, click Sharing...
  28.     After checking the appropriate boxes, click OK.
  29.     
  30. 7.  To install the network NIC, click Drivers...
  31.  
  32. 8.  In the Network Drivers window, click Add Adapter...
  33.  
  34. 9.  From the list of network NICs, select Unlisted or Updated Network
  35.     Adapter and then click OK.
  36.  
  37. 10. Network setup now requires the vendor-provided network driver diskette.
  38.     Insert the EtherDisk 1 diskette in drive A: and type the following 
  39.     path for the location of the NDIS driver:
  40.     
  41.     A:\WFW311
  42.     
  43.     Click OK.
  44.  
  45. 11. From the Unlisted or Updated Network Adapter screen, select 
  46.     3Com EtherLink XL/Fast EtherLink XL NIC (3C90X) and click OK.
  47.     The Network Setup screen now lists the NIC, along with the 
  48.     default protocol stacks:
  49.     
  50.     3Com EtherLink XL/Fast EtherLink XL NIC (3C90X) (NDIS 2/NDIS 3)
  51.        IPX/SPX Compatible Transport with NetBIOS
  52.        Microsoft NetBEUI
  53.        
  54. 12. If you wish to use the NDIS 3 driver skip, to step 14. If you 
  55.     wish to use the NDIS 2 driver, click Setup... in the Network 
  56.     Drivers menu.
  57.     
  58. 13. To select the NDIS 2 real-mode driver, click the down arrow under 
  59.     Driver Type and select Real Mode NDIS Driver. Then click OK.
  60.  
  61. 14. Click Close in the Network Drivers window to accept these settings
  62.     and then click OK in the Network Setup window to start the 
  63.     installation.
  64.  
  65. 15. At this point WFW may give you a chance to supply or change your 
  66.     username, workgroup and computer name.  
  67.     If your network administrator gives you this information, use the 
  68.     information you were given. If not, you can create this information 
  69.     yourself.  When you are finished, click OK.

  71. 16. The Windows Setup program may ask if you want to replace the Enhanced 
  72.     Mode Protocol Manager with the version you are installing now.
  73.     Click Yes to All.
  74.  
  75. 17. If the Windows Setup program asks for the NDIS.386 file,  insert
  76.     Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.11 Disk 7 and click OK.

  78. 18. If prompted for the EL90X.386 driver, insert the 3Com EtherDisk 1
  79.     diskette in the A:\ drive. Type the following path to load the 
  80.     NDIS 3 driver:

  82.     A:\WFW311

  84.     Click OK.

  86. 19. If prompted for the EL90X.DOS driver, insert the 3Com EtherDisk 1
  87.     diskette in the A:\ drive. Type the following path to load the 
  88.     NDIS 2 driver:

  90.     A:\NDIS2\DOS
  91.     
  92.     Click OK.
  93.  
  94. 20. The PROTOCOL.INI and SYSTEM.INI files have now been modified.  WFW 
  95.     saves the old versions with the extension .001, where the number is
  96.     incremented every time a new PROTOCOL.INI or SYSTEM.INI, file is 
  97.     generated. Click OK.
  98.  
  99. 21. When prompted, restart the computer.
